Much like Hydro Cleansing, your cesspit is working 24/7, so it makes sense to keep it properly maintained. The same as any investment, it is important to take care of your septic system so that it can continue working effectively.

Unfortunately, septic systems are often overlooked. This can be due to the location of the tank, lack of information, or as an effort to save money . Without proper care and maintenance cesspits and septic tanks fall into disrepair. In the worst cases, the tank would then need to be cleaned, removed and replaced. To help avoid this, make sure that you are regularly servicing and emptying your septic system. If properly looked after they can last anywhere from 25-30 years.

Why Look After A Cesspit?

We always advise customers to check out The Environment Agency’s guidelines and schedule regular maintenance.  We offer regularly scheduled cesspit tank emptying at times convenient for you, preventing the risk of blocked drains and flooded gardens!

How Much Does It Cost?

Our cesspit emptying costs depend on various factors. From the size of the tank, the frequency with which we need to empty it and the volume of waste that we remove.
Generally, domestic cesspits can hold around 4500 litres of waste, we include removal of up to 9000 litres in our standard cesspit empty to make sure you’re covered. (We also won’t charge you VAT for domestic empties.)
Our cesspit maintenance, emptying and and cleaning prices range from £250+. There are a variety of factors to take into consideration when pricing, this is why we offer a free quote, and if necessary, a free site visit.

Why Service Regularly?

We offer bespoke contracts and schedules for maintaining cesspits and septic tanks. Generally, septic tanks and cesspits should be emptied on at least a biannual basis to avoid saturation of the soakaways.  This of course depends on the level of usage and requirements of the cesspit or septic tank, something that our teams can discuss with you.

The Twelve Days of Christmas With Hydro Cleansing | 2. Case Study NPL

and Hydro Cleansing’s Mega-Heat…”

Continuing our twelve day countdown to Christmas, today’s blog is a nice juicy case study! However, this isn’t just any case study, this case study features blocked culverts, four foot long tree roots, over 50 TONNES of silt, and of course, an expert team of Hydro Cleansing engineers getting the job done. 

Back in the Summer we were called out to deal with some blocked culverts, syphons and silt traps by the NPL. On our arrival it was clear that there was something seriously big blocking the syphon under the railway, even our camera couldn’t travel underneath to get a clear picture. Upon further investigation the engineers discovered that the blockage was clusters of tree roots growing through the tunnels. Check out the full scope of works below!

Scope of Works – Desilting of culvert | Root cutting in syphon under railway | Desilting of silt traps

  1. The culvert in Normansfield Road had a high level of silt and elevated water level, the camera was then unable to return a picture of the internal condition of the pipe. We needed to remove this silt and reduce the flow during the survey, we then proposed to undertake this with a super combination unit taking one day to complete and resurvey.
  1. The syphon under the rail way had root ingress which prevented the passage of the camera, to remove this we needed to reduce the flow through the culvert and use high pressure root cutting with specialist root cutting nozzles suitable for large bore pipes. We took one day to complete and resurvey.
  1. The silt traps in five manholes needed de-silting, they contained an average of 1m of silt each. The silt traps are 2.5m in diameter which will yield approximately nine tonnes each. We took two days to complete.

This fresh water pump station was one of the first ever built. Baldwin Latham Engineering designed and built this innovative structure and also wrote a guide to sanitary engineering and sewer construction in London.

Victorian engineering developed at an incredible rate. The pace of development in the cities is comparable to today’s digital revolution. Some things don’t change however. The Victorian saying,

“a man should look to his drains before he furnishes his drawing room,”

is as true as ever. The need to clear drainage is as much a necessity now as it was then. Excellent installation, maintenance and repair provide peace of mind. In the Victorian era this was achieved in a very basic fashion compared to how Hydro Cleansing do it!

Their PPE consisted of a hat and boots, today our confined space engineers are kept a lot safer! In the Victorian age, the confined space operatives would pull ploughs through the sewers to unblock them! Thankfully innovation has led to Megatron’s power to decimate blockages in hours through the simple power of high pressure water and vacuum suction. Baldwin and Latham would be amazed! Bazalgette probably saw it coming though!
