Megatron

The Challenge

The description of the job was pretty mundane. Can you send along a combination unit to empty out some drains which would in turn allow the contractor to handover their works to their client; a local hospital. Straight forward enough you would say. Anyway, circumstances conspired to result in Megatron attending the job, and as it turned out, that was definitely a good thing…

The Solution

Megatron instantly began to recover vast amounts of rubble and other unknown items from depths of over 50m. The rattle of debris shooting up the suction boom and into the main hold continued, with Megatron pumping back/recycling waste water.

Stopping temporarily we identified what was still lying in the sewer, examined the filters in Megatron and carried out an inspection to make sure the sheer volume of coarse material hadn’t taken a toll on Megatron.

Megatron continued to show its capabilities and finished the job with no issues or problems whatsoever. Site management were horrified identifying the extent of the material found, which was there before they had started work.

Digging Holes

The Challenge

Our client had to carry out some repairs to a waste pipe which was serving a local school. The client knew where the repair had to be completed and was also aware that there were a number of other services running within the immediate area but had no specific plans or guidance on location. Using traditional technology would have meant that the work could not be undertaken until the school was closed for at least two weeks, as the services feeding the school would have been destroyed doing the excavation.

The Solution

Megatron was deployed. Using our on board ultra-high pressure water jetting, combined with Megatron’s powerful vacuum system, a trench measuring 80 metres in length, by two metres in width and two metres in depth was cut and vacuum excavated from site. The job took a total of three working days and the services remained intact leaving the school operational throughout.

Quick & Dirty

The Challenge

Our client has a large culvert within their manufacturing site fed by a series of drains spanning the entire thirty acre estate. The culvert had become heavily silted up with an environment agency requirement for a complete empty and clean due to the potential presence of hydro-carbons in the system. The previous contractor had used a system of excavators, scaffolding and bulk carriers completing the work in around five weeks.

The Solution

Megatron attended site with two supporting bulk tankers and a range of peripheral equipment to support the various stages of remediation. Using the vacuum pump on Megatron, we extracted the contents of the culvert and directly transferred them from Megatron into supporting bulk tankers which then took the waste off site for treatment and disposal. Having exposed the layer of silt which extended to a depth of over a metre, We then used the waste water recovered from the culvert to power Megatron’s bulk jetting system which both broke down the silt and converted it into a slurry for extraction and disposal. These operations were performed simultaneously. This process was completed, the feeding drains jetted and cleaned (including the removal of concrete waste) and the site returned to our client within seven working days.

Business Continuity @ Canary Wharf

The Challenge

The call came at lunchtime one Friday. Our client had a blockage in their drainage system which could not be specifically traced but was creating a need for toilet blocks to be closed within their twelve storey building and people to be redeployed to other adjacent locations. Their system was perceived to be generating a build up in pressure, and as it was routed via various critical facilities including the plant room housing the uninterrupted power supply, a solution was sought urgently to prevent closure of the building a series of consequential financial impacts to the business.

The Solution

By 19.00 hrs that evening a team was deployed with a range of equipment including Megatron as the centre piece. The team worked their way through the network of drains including the vast stack pipe supporting the whole side of this building which had a history of these issues dating back several years. Accessing the network at various points and applying a combination of Megatron’s vacuum pump and high pressure jetting operating at distances of over 300 metres, the building was eventually cleared by 02.00 hrs in the morning. We were able to demonstrate this by applying Megatron’s vacuum pump to the base of the stack pipe and systematically emptying toilets via suction from ten floors above. The building has had no further problems.

Clearly Megatron is a step outside the normal expectations of the market, but so are the results of the work undertaken. We certainly recognise that Megatron is not designed to compete financially with companies focused upon the rate per day as obviously the cheaper and less specified vehicle will always win. But for those clients out there, that recognise the full financial consequence of lost productivity, and the opportunity to reduce maintenance spend by achieving new levels of cleanliness, there is no match to Megatron.

Day four of the Christmas countdown is upon us, and so is the latest blog instalment! Today’s blog is all about our talented CCTV team and their top of the range trenchless technology. Drain repair equipment has come a long way in the past few years. Discovering you have a cracked or damaged  pipe no longer means digging up your garden and weeks of work. Advances in technology mean that repairs can begin almost immediately with no digging or disruption. Read on for a journey of drain lining discovery!

How does it work?

When you request a drain relining service the first step is to identify the cause of damage. We will send a CCTV unit into the pipe to assess the damage and check if a drain pipe relining is feasible. When we have completed this stage and agreed a drain relining is the best option, our team will start work!

What does it involve?

We will use one of our state of the art jet vac tankers to clean and remove any blockages within the drain or sewer pipe. This is to ensure the pipe has a good clean surface for the resin to bond to. We then insert a deflated packer (also known as a bladder) within the drain, pushing it through to the damaged area.  Once we have confirmed we are covering the damaged part of the drain with the drain relining patch, the packer (bladder) will then be inflated.

This will force the drain relining to bond with and secure itself to the inside of the drain or sewer pipe. Once dried, this makes a completely secure, leak-proof seal. Once we have removed the packer our team will then re-insert the CCTV unit into the newly repaired pipe to make sure that the resin has cured and there are no leaks. Drain relining can patch drain pipes from as little as 100mm diameter up to 1.5 metres and is a permanent solution.
